Durch eine ganze Nacht sich nahe seyn
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT DUT ENG FRE SPA
Durch eine ganze Nacht sich [nahe]1 seyn,
So Hand in Hand, so Arm [im]2 Arme weilen,
So viel empfinden, ohne mitzutheilen -

The morning kiss
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
To be near each other the entire night,
to pass the time hand in hand, arm in arm,
to feel so much that cannot be communicated,
it is a wondrous agony.
Ever to gaze, soul to soul,
seeing the most secret wishes of the heart,
to speak so little and understand so much,
it is a lofty, martyring happiness.
As reward for the time that has disappeared in this compulsion,
then, is warmly, with delight, at daybreak
to press mouth to mouth, and heart to heart -
o this is - angelic bliss!
