Høgt kvelvande blomekrans baldakinar av smaragdar du born frå fjerne land, fortel meg, kvifor denne klagen? Stille bøyer du greinene dine og ritar teikn i lufta, og frå eit stille vitne til di sorg stig ein søtleg ange. Vid i lengt og attrå spreier du armane ut og omfamnar, i sjølvbedrag ei grødelaus, fryktsam jord. Vel veit eg, arme plante, det er ein lagnad som vi deler. Sjølv om lyset skin omkring deg; vårt heimland er ikkje her. Og kor gjerne sola ville slokke dagens tomme skin slik at den som lir kan ta på seg klede av stille. Stille veks ei angstfull rasling som fyller det mørke rommet. Eg kan sjå dei tunge dropane henge ned frå grøne blad.
