Daß die Nacht nicht Ruhe hält,
Wenn zu atmen aufgehöret
Lange schon die müde Welt.
 
Daß die Glocken, die da schlagen,
Und im Wald der leise Wind
Jede Nacht von neuem klagen
Um mein liebes, süßes Kind.
 
Daß mein Herz nicht konnte brechen
Bei dem letzten Todeskuß,
Daß ich wie im Wahnsinn sprechen
Nun in irren Liedern muß.
