Ningú s’ha penedit encara d’haver muntat al seu cavall, i en la flor de la joventut, voletejar per el món. Muntanyes i prades, boscos solitaris, noies i dones en vestits esplèndids, joiells d’or, tot el delecta amb llur formosa aparença. Estranyes figures passen volant, exaltats fulguren els desigs juvenils dels seus ebris sentits. La fama escampa roses prest al seu camí, amors i carícies, llorers i roses el menen cada cop més amunt. Amics al seu entorn, enemics que l’envegen, vençuts per l’heroi. Llavors, amb modèstia, escull la donzella que entre totes més li plau. I muntanyes i camps i boscos solitaris troba a faltar. Els pares en llàgrimes, ai, tots els seus anhels, la felicitat més gran els reuneix a tots. Els anys han passat, li relata al seu fill en els moments íntims, i li mostra les ferides, fruit de la seva valentia. És així com l’ancià roman encara jove, un raig de llum al crepuscle.
