Una
Language: German (Deutsch)
Bleich flimmert in stürmender Nacht
Der Mond durch die klirrenden Fenster,
Als Una zur Zeit der Gespenster
Aus drückenden Träumen erwacht.
Und düstres Gemurmel umschlich
Ihr Lager, wie ängstliche Klagen,
Dann schien ihr ein Seufzer zu sagen:
O weine nicht länger um mich!
Guglielmo, sie kannte den Ton,
Es trugen dich innig Betrübten
Aus Armen der einzig Geliebten
Die tosenden Fluten davon,
Vor Schrecken entfärbte sie sich
Und wagte das Haupt nicht zu heben,
Und wieder vernahm sie mit Beben:
O weine nicht länger um mich!
Hoch klopfte die wallende Brust;
Das Licht ihrer Augen ward trübe;
Noch war sie entbehrender Liebe,
Sie war sich nichts weiter bewußt!
Eh langsam ihr Pulsschlag entwich,
Vollbrachte der Zeiger die Stunde,
Da rief es mit scheidendem Munde:
O weine nicht länger um mich!
Des Morgens belebender Blick
Erheitert den Himmel aufs neue.
Nie kehrte für Una, die Treue,
Ein Morgen der Liebe zurück.
Da wandte zum Meere sie sich: -
Guglielmo, die Liebende haben,
Dich suchend, die Wellen begraben!
Nun weint sie nicht länger um dich!

Una
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
In a stormy night pale flickers
The moon through rattling windowpanes,
When Una awakes from opressive dreams
at the witching-hour.
And ominous murmuring surrounded her bed,
like woebegone laments,
Then a sigh seemed to tell her:
Weep no longer for me!
Guglielmo, she knows his voice,
he, who to his heartfelt distress
was carried away by the churning waves,
out of the arms of his beloved.
The shock blanched her face
And she didn't dare show her face,
And again she felt a tremor:
Weep no longer for me!
Agitated was her heaving breast;
Her eyes dimmed;
As yet she was without love,
unconscious of her surroundings!
Before her pulse slowly died away,
The hour was full,
And a cutting voice screamed:
Weep no longer for me!
Morning's enlivening regard
cheers the sky afresh.
For Una the faithful there will be
never again a morning of love.
So she turned to the sea:
Guglielmo, while she was looking for you,
the waves have buried your love!
Now she's moaning for you no longer!
