Quelle grandeur rend l'homme venerable ?
Quelle grosseur ? quel poil ? quelle couleur ?
Ne me sauroient acroitre mon desir.

What stature puts a man in the "hero"...
Language: English  after the French (Français)
What stature puts a man in the "hero" class?
What colour of skin or hair? What body-size?
Which is the honey-sweetest shade of eyes,
the quickest to inflict a wound that lasts?
What kind of song graces the male condition?
What voice most helps him to advance his suit,
especially when accompanied by a lute?
What is the most lovable disposition?
I feel I cannot say with certainty,
since Love has marred my objectivity.
But one thing’s sure - I bear the proof of this:
no trait of beauty that he could acquire,
no artistry enhancing Nature’s gifts,
nothing could further add to my desire.
