Wie holde Blumendüfte durchs Dunkel kosend zieh'n, so schwingen durch die Lüfte sich meine Melodien. Die Pfade, die er wähle, zeigt ihm kein freundlich Licht, doch trifft der Ton die Seele und irrt im Dunkel nicht. Er schwebet leis' ud leiser ans Fenster dir heran; die Liebe ist sein Weiser, die Sehnsucht seine Bahn. Hörst du sein zartes Klopfen? Bescheiden ist sein Laut, wie still ein Himmelstropfen auf Rosen niedertaut. O schnell ihn zu erhören das Fenster aufgemacht! Er will nicht lange stören, er sagt nur gute Nacht.

Le soir in sent dans l'ombre monter l'odeur des champs, ainsi de la nuit sombre vers toi s'en vont mes chants. La route, aucune flamme ne vient la leur montrer, mon chant droit à ton âme ira sans s'égarer. Vers ta fenêtre vide il vole doucement ; amour lui sert de guide, désir est son aimant. Se heurte en bas, écoute, son humble et doux appel, aux fleurs ainsi la goutte sans bruit descend du ciel. Oh ! vite toute grande ta vitre entrouvre-lui, car il ne te demande qu'à dire : bonne nuit !
