Ernst ist der Herbst.
Und wenn die Blätter fallen,
sinkt auch das Herz
zu trübem Weh herab.
Still ist die Flur,
und nach dem Süden wallen
die Sänger, stumm,
wie nach dem Grab.
Bleich ist der Tag,
und blasse Nebel schleiern
die Sonne wie die Herzen, ein.
Früh kommt die Nacht:
denn alle Kräfte feiern,
und tief verschlossen ruht das Sein.
Sanft wird der Mensch.
Er sieht die Sonne sinken,
er ahnt des Lebens
wie des Jahres Schluß.
Feucht wird das Aug',
doch in der Träne Blinken,
entströmt des Herzens
seligster Erguß.

Severa és la tardor
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
Severa és la tardor,
i quan les fulles cauen,
s’enfonsa també el cor
en una trista aflicció.
Silents han quedat els camps,
i cap al sud han marxat
els ocells que cantaven,
muts, com vers la tomba.
Esblaimat està el dia,
i núvols pàl•lids
tapen el sol i també els cors.
Aviat es fa de nit:
car s’aturen tots els afanys,
i profundament reclosos, els éssers reposen.
Els humans s’entendreixen.
Veuen com s’amaga el sol,
s’adonen que la vida
és com l’acabament de l’any.
Els ulls se’ls humitegen,
però entre les llàgrimes resplendeix,
brollant dels seus cors,
una efusió de gran benaurança.
