Si el meu rústec martell, a les dures pedres,
dóna una o altra forma humana,
és el mestre que el té a la mà, el mena i el guia
qui, prenent moviment, va a un altre pas.
Però aquell diví que al cel s’allotja i resideix,
als altres i a ell mateix embelleix;
i si cap martell sense un altre martell
es pot fer, d’aquell vivent es fan tots els altres.
I atès que un cop bat més fort a l’enclusa
quan més alt s’aixeca el martell a la farga,
aquest s’ha enlairat per damunt meu, fins al cel.
Per això, el que no he acabat es malmetrà
a no ser que la farga divina li doni el seu ajut,
puix era l’únic en aquest món.
