Frühmorgens, wenn die Hähne kräh'n, Eh' noch der Wachtel Ruf erschallt, Eh' wärmer all' die Lüfte weh'n, Vom Jagdhornruf das Echo hallt, Dann gehet leise nach seiner Weise Der liebe Herrgott durch den Wald. Die Quelle, die ihn kommen hört Hält ihr Gemurmel auf sogleich, Auf daß sie nicht in Andacht stört, So Groß als Klein im Waldbereich, Die Bäume denken: „Nun laßt uns senken Vorm lieben Herrgott das Gezweig!“ Die Blümlein, wenn sie aufgewacht, Sie ahnen auch den Herrn alsbald Und schütteln rasch den Schlaf der Nacht Sich aus den Augen mit [Gewalt Und]1 flüstern leise ringsum im Kreise: „Der liebe Gott geht durch den Wald.“
