Im tiefen Wald im Dornenhag,
da schläft die Jungfrau hundert Jahr,
es schläft die Flieg an der Wand,
in dem Schloß
Hund und Roß,
es schläft wohl auf dem Herd der Brand.

Der Ritter zog sein Schwert da frisch
und hieb sich ab das Dorngebüsch,
und ging hinein ins Königshaus,
ins Kämmerlein
zum Bettelein,
küßt auf den Mund die schlafende Braut.

Da wacht das schöne Mägdelein,
schenkt ihm ir feines Ringelein,
die Flieg erwachet an der Wand,
in dem Schloß
Hund und Roß,
auf dem Herd erwacht der Feuerbrand.
