On the water’s tranquil surface moonlight rests with gentle sheen, interweaving sallow roses with the rushes’ wreath of green. There, some deer roam on the hillside, looking up into the sky; sometimes fowl move in the reed beds or, as in a dream, glide by. But, in tears, I must gaze inwards: from my deepest soul proceed, like a silent nighttime prayer, tender thoughts of you, and sweet.
